Death in Service

If you die whilst still an active member of the Plan, one or more of the following benefits may be payable depending on which section of the Plan you are a member of. 

Lump Sum

  • A lump sum of four times your Salary payable to your dependants
  • A full or partial refund of your contributions to the Plan

Any Lump Sum death benefits are paid at the Trustee’s discretion, which means that under current legislation, they will not be subject to Inheritance Tax.

Who is entitled to a pension on my death?

SHCL* or BCSPF* members

If you have a spouse then they will be entitled to a spouse’s pension. In addition, if you have eligible children then children’s pensions will also be payable. If no spouse’s pension is payable, the Trustee may pay a pension to a dependant.

Group DB* or Group DB Pbi* members

If you have a spouse then they will be entitled to a spouse’s pension. If no spouse’s pension is payable, if you have eligible children then children’s pensions will be payable.  If no spouse’s pension or children’s pension is payable, the Trustee may pay a pension to a dependant.
